About the position

The Software Engineering Manager (Back End) at CoStar Group is responsible for leading an engineering team to develop and manage large-scale software solutions that support multiple software products and brands. This role involves hands-on technical guidance, collaboration with product teams, and ownership of the software development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality software delivery. The position is based in Nashville, TN, with a hybrid work schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Leading an engineering team of 7-8 people.
  • Architecting, developing, testing, deploying, and operating large-scale software solutions.
  • Taking full end-to-end ownership of shipping high quality software.
  • Collaborating with the product team to specify the work, development, testing, deployment, and operation in production.
  • Providing hands-on technical guidance to the team.
  • Acting as a trusted expert and advisor in technical architecture, design, and code.
  • Advocating for ongoing improvement in technical and non-technical processes.
  • Influencing the technical strategy of data and API platforms.
  • Gaining a deep understanding of the CoStar business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college; MSc or PhD is a plus.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in C# and .NET (.NET core) development.
  • Expert level knowledge of modern server-side languages and application frameworks (C#, .NET Framework, Web API, Node).
  • Experience with high-level software design/architecture.
  • Knowledge of modern front-end languages and application frameworks (JavaScript, React, etc.).
  • Experience implementing and running software development best practices, including standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
  • Proficiency with Source Control systems such as Git or Azure DevOps.
  • Expertise with relational database (e.g., SQL Server) or NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB) systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a technical leader or software architect.
  • Real-world experience with Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Direct or indirect people/team leadership experience.
  • Solid understanding and experience with Object Oriented Programming.
