About the position

Swift Navigation is hiring a Software Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for developing the architecture and applications behind our flagship service, Skylark. Skylark is a 24/7 GNSS corrections service that enables centimeter-level navigation for over 10 million ADAS-enabled and autonomous vehicles worldwide. The successful candidate will oversee a team of engineers who are tasked with designing, developing, and delivering cloud services and applications that are utilized by millions of vehicles in real-time. This role requires a strong focus on high-quality service delivery, aligning with both short and long-term company objectives. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will work closely with Product and Program teams to define and deliver the team's roadmap. You will encourage teamwork and unity within the organization, fostering a culture of open discussions and effective conflict resolution. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the 24/7 operation of Skylark Applications, applying best practices to improve uptime and reliability, and managing resources efficiently. You will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring your team, overseeing new hire onboarding, and providing regular feedback to support career development. In this role, you will drive engineering quality through appropriate processes and automation, maintain a healthy team culture through regular communication, and clarify ownership and decision-making within the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to people development and engagement. You will be expected to lead with empathy and high emotional intelligence, fostering strong interpersonal relationships and collaboration across functions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers focused on designing, developing, and delivering cloud services and applications used by millions of vehicles in real-time.
  • Work closely with Product and Program teams to define, own, and deliver the team's roadmap.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services that align with company objectives.
  • Encourage teamwork and unity, promoting open discussions and efficient conflict resolution.
  • Support a work culture that values cohesiveness and effective collaboration.
  • Own the 24/7 operation of Skylark Applications, applying best practices to improve uptime and reliability.
  • Develop accurate time estimates and scoping for work products; track and manage resources efficiently.
  • Proactively forecast and plan for future resource needs and team balance.
  • Provide oversight and direction to align work with functional and company strategy.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new hire onboarding and career development.
  • Drive engineering quality through appropriate processes and automation.
  • Maintain a healthy team culture through regular communication and feedback.
  • Clarify ownership and decision-making within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading a team of 5+ software engineers.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, Rust, or Python.
  • Experience with architecting, operating, and managing enterprise-grade cloud services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and front-end frameworks, including React.
  • Familiarity with authentication systems and security best practices.
  • Experience with streaming data infrastructure and REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of relational databases (Postgres/MySQL) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and judgment with a flexible approach.
  • Experience with people management and a commitment to people development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with software development for regulated industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices).
  • Familiarity with operating real-time sensor networks such as GNSS and weather stations.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of ETL best practices and visualizing large datasets.
  • Experience with gRPC and MQTT.
