About the position
The Software Engineering Manager for Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure at Canonical is responsible for leading a remote team of engineers to develop a next-generation private cloud infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership with team management, focusing on fostering talent, advocating modern software development practices, and ensuring high-quality software delivery. The manager will engage with various stakeholders, participate in the engineering process, and contribute to the overall strategy and execution of projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of remote engineers
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate and advance modern software development practices
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural review
- Engage with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
- Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events
Requirements
- Experience in high-quality microservice architectures
- Deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage, and networking
- Strong technical background in software engineering
- Experience programming in C and/or Go
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
