About the position

The Software Engineering Manager for the Core Platform at Verkada will lead a team responsible for building and managing the Command product, which encompasses both frontend and backend engineering. This role involves hands-on coding, team inspiration, collaboration with product and design teams, and driving best practices in software development. The manager will also foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage the Command product, overseeing both frontend and backend engineers.
• Actively write code or prototype new features as needed.
• Inspire the team to create polished and delightful user experiences.
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to build and ship features that delight users and customers.
• Work with other engineering leaders to define, communicate, and execute on goals, priorities, and processes.
• Drive the adoption of best practices, coding standards, and development methodologies to ensure high-quality, maintainable code delivery.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and trends, evaluating their potential impact on web platforms and recommending innovative solutions.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the web engineering team.

Requirements

• 2+ years experience managing, leading, and inspiring a team of engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• 5+ years of work experience in software engineering roles.
• Experience with both backend and frontend development.
• Experience working in an agile software development environment.
• Strong eye for design, product details, and polish.
• Working knowledge of at least one server-side framework and one database system.
• Degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field.
