About the position

As a Software Engineering Manager at Google, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a team focused on developing innovative imaging product experiences for Pixel phones and Google Photos. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to manage projects, set team priorities, and align strategies with broader organizational goals. You will also be responsible for mentoring team members, providing feedback, and evolving the technical roadmap to meet future requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
  • Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, aligned to the broader organization's goals.
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the long-term technical direction and roadmap within and beyond the scope of your teams.
  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Oversee systems designs within the scope of the broader area, reviewing product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
  • 5 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • 5 years of experience with full stack development across back-end codebases such as Java, Python, GO, or C++.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience in software design and architecture, with an understanding of AI/ML concepts, algorithms, and their application.
  • Knowledge of machine learning or neural networks.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $237,000-$337,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
