About the position

Apple is seeking an engineering manager to join the Edge Services team, responsible for critical systems such as Apple DNS that support billions of customer devices and over 130,000 employees. This role involves setting direction for DNS infrastructure, collaborating with various teams, and contributing infrastructure code. The manager will oversee production deployments, handle operational support, and engage with open source communities, ensuring the evolution of the architecture and addressing production issues.

Responsibilities

• Collaboratively set direction for how Apple operates DNS infrastructure.
• Handle relationships with various open source communities.
• Work with developers to set priorities, review code and architecture, and lead production deployments.
• Provide second tier operational support for the team.
• Review performance data and investigate performance regressions.
• Contribute infrastructure code for DNS systems and services.

Requirements

• 3+ years experience in software engineering management.
• 5+ years experience in a software engineering role.
• Experience mentoring a team at varied skill levels in deep technical details.
• Experience participating in and building a highly productive blameless team culture.
• Experience with designing, implementing, and supporting highly scalable infrastructure services.
• Experience with large server deployments.
• Experience with various Linux flavors (Redhat, FreeBSD).
• Experience with revision control systems, continuous integration, unit testing, code reviews, and configuration management systems.

Nice-to-haves

• 10+ years experience in a software engineering role.
• Knowledge of IPv6, UDP, HTTP, BGP, etc.
• Experience building highly resilient OS image/install processes.
• Deep experience working with Global Teams.
