About the position

The Software Engineering Manager II at Google is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the development and optimization of software projects across various domains, including artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and distributed computing. This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and ensure the successful deployment of large-scale projects internationally. The manager will oversee the performance and development of team members while aligning team priorities with the broader organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, and meet regularly to discuss performance and development.
  • Develop the mid-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team.
  • Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the broader area.
  • Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Experience in software architecture.
  • Experience testing embedded software on SoC on Linux, Android, or RTOS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
