About the position

The Software Engineering Manager role is a technical leadership position within the product development organization of a growing SaaS company. This role involves managing a team of software engineers and SDETs, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring timely project delivery through effective collaboration and risk management. The position emphasizes career development for team members and requires a strong background in software engineering and Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of around 8 software engineers and SDETs.
  • Provide people management, coaching, mentoring, and develop career paths for team members.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with architects, engineering managers, and product owners.
  • Work in an Agile (Kanban) environment with weekly iterations and releases.
  • Mitigate and resolve project and team risks to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Ensure teams have clear priorities and adequate resources.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and planning.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and assist with interviewing and hiring new team members.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional experience managing technical professionals.
  • Software engineering background with C# and/or Java + JavaScript is preferred.
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, coding standards, code reviews, and TDD.
  • Understanding of OOP, data structures, algorithms, and APIs.
  • Extensive experience working in Agile processes and workflows.
  • Experience with pair programming or mob programming is preferred.
  • Excellent people management and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing production, enterprise (B2B) software products (SaaS is preferred).
