About the position

Meta is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead product development teams. This role is designed for individuals who possess a blend of technical expertise and strong management capabilities. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing teams that work on multiple projects, often in high-impact or ambiguous areas. Your leadership will be crucial in defining and influencing the strategic direction of your team and collaborating with cross-functional partners to achieve optimal outcomes. You will also be expected to drive the creation and execution of roadmaps, ensuring that your team meets its goals and delivers impactful results. In this position, you will act as a subject matter expert in your product domain, guiding your team through technical design processes and measuring the impact of their work. You will set clear expectations and goals, while also participating in the recruitment and management of technical teams. Your ability to work effectively with various stakeholders will be essential in driving engineering initiatives and influencing organizational design and prioritization. This role requires a balance of technical acumen and people management skills, making it ideal for those who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about building innovative software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Be both highly technical and an effective people manager
  • Be a subject matter expert in a product domain
  • Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in an ambiguous or high-impact area
  • Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy
  • Drive roadmap creation and execution
  • Collaborate with various functions, drive engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organizational level
  • Participate in technical design
  • Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals
  • Work effectively with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes
  • Partner with leadership to influence and drive org design, contribution and prioritization

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering work experience, including hands-on technical management building holistic web based software solution, API design, and interactions between servers and clients
  • 5+ years experience coding in one of the following languages: C++, Java, Python and/or PHP
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management
  • BA/BS in Computer Science (In lieu of degree, 4+ years work experience)
