About the position

Meta is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Manager to lead product development in Topeka, KS. This role is designed for individuals who possess a blend of technical expertise and strong management capabilities. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing engineering teams that work on multiple projects, often in high-impact areas with significant dependencies. Your role will involve not only managing people but also being deeply involved in the technical aspects of product development. You will be expected to define and influence the strategy for your team, ensuring that projects align with organizational goals and deliver optimal outcomes. In this position, you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to drive engineering initiatives and participate in technical design discussions. You will measure the impact of your team, set clear expectations, and work effectively with stakeholders to achieve desired results. Additionally, you will partner with leadership to influence organizational design and prioritize contributions from your team. This role requires a proactive approach to leadership, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages team members to excel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, with at least five years of experience in technical management. You should be proficient in coding with languages such as C++, Java, Python, or PHP, and have a proven track record of recruiting and managing technical teams. A BA/BS in Computer Science is preferred, although equivalent work experience may be considered. This position offers a competitive salary range of $177,000 to $251,000 per year, along with bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Be both highly technical and an effective people manager

  • Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering work experience, including hands-on technical management building holistic web based software solution, API design, and interactions between Servers and clients
  • 5+ years experience coding in one of the following languages: C++, Java, Python and/or PHP
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management
  • BA/BS in Computer Science (In lieu of degree, 4+ years work experience)
