About the position

As a Software Manager at Medtronic, you will lead a team of engineers in the development and enhancement of the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform. This role involves managing the controls software functional area, ensuring team growth and success, and driving best practices in product development. You will collaborate with various departments to build sustainable processes and represent your team within the wider software organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in designing and developing feedback control loop algorithms and controls software for robotic manipulators and surgical instruments.
  • Represent the team to the wider software organization and partner with the R&D organization.
  • Build sustainable processes for product development and drive best practices within the functional area.
  • Remove barriers for the team and participate in design reviews.
  • Mentor and coach team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, and tactics within one job area.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Applied controls and traditional robotics knowledge.
  • Mechanical engineering or mechanical system modeling/physics experience.
  • Experience managing the full product development cycle for software, from concept through to release and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of managing teams in a large organization, especially at multiple locations and remotely.
  • Great communication skills to coordinate people and teams around unstructured challenges and moving project priorities.
  • Knowledge of software development workflow, especially with Simulink and real-time control systems.
  • Knowledge of medical device development processes such as 60601, 13485, 62304.
