About the position

The watchOS System Experience group at Apple is seeking an energetic and ambitious software engineering manager to lead a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers in the delivery of system-level features for watchOS. This position is pivotal as the Carousel team is at the center of the Watch platform, handling critical functionalities such as system startup, browsing and launching apps, displaying notifications, and managing hardware button and Always On display behavior. The role is essential in bringing many watchOS features to life with each new release, making it a dynamic and impactful position within the organization. In this role, you will be expected to demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Collaboration is key, as this hands-on position requires working closely with engineers and leaders across various domains. You will lead a software development team, leveraging your experience and a consistent track record of bringing products to market. Your leadership will be crucial in building and guiding a team of senior engineers, ensuring that they are aligned with the goals of the Carousel team and the broader objectives of the watchOS platform. A deep technical understanding and hands-on experience with software development and lifecycle management are critical for success in this role. You will need to possess solid computer science fundamentals and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage your team and collaborate with other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in the development of system-level features for watchOS.
  • Oversee the delivery of critical functionalities such as system startup, app browsing and launching, and notification display.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of features across the watchOS platform.
  • Drive the software development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team.

Requirements

  • Experience leading a software development team with a proven track record of bringing products to market.
  • Deep technical understanding and hands-on experience with software development and lifecycle management.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
