About the position

As a Software Engineering Manager at Ahold Delhaize USA, you will lead the development of innovative software solutions for the eCommerce and order fulfillment infrastructure. This role involves overseeing engineering teams, managing projects, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality web services and applications that enhance customer experience. You will be responsible for establishing development standards, mentoring developers, and influencing the strategic direction of the product portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Planning, designing, and overseeing projects while managing capital funding and supervising engineering teams.
• Leading agile scrum teams to implement critical project components, balancing product feature development with technical debt tasks.
• Identifying business needs and suggesting technical directions.
• Staying updated with the latest software trends and recommending opportunities for innovation.
• Establishing development standards with input from architects and engineers.
• Influencing and inspiring the strategic direction of the product portfolio and development practices.
• Making sound business decisions regarding technology implementation.
• Mentoring developers to master modern technologies and enhance business domains.
• Coordinating and facilitating communication across cross-domain teams and resolving conflicts.
• Providing consulting and direction to address business problems or needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in managing small to medium sized teams.
• 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Deep understanding of software development lifecycle concepts and agile development methods.
• Good understanding of core technologies: Java, Spring, RESTful API, messaging frameworks, container-based development (Docker), Elastic Search, Relational Database (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (Azure Cosmos DB or Cassandra), and event-driven architecture solutions such as Kafka.
• Exposure to Azure Cloud computing technologies including Azure AKS, Azure APIM, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Database, Redis, Istio, Multi-Tenant, Single Tenant, and Azure AD.
• Solid experience in implementing Microservices Architecture and building/deploying highly automated, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure.
• Proven expertise in modernizing legacy applications to modern technologies in Azure cloud.
• Knowledge of Continuous Delivery processes and tools, testing frameworks and practices (preferably GitHub, Jenkins, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, and other efficiency tools in an Agile development methodology.
• Detailed understanding of business strategy, operations, markets, and key collaborators.
• Strong communication skills and technical expertise for substantial discussions with partners across business roles and abilities.
• Preferred experience in the grocery and digital retail industry.
