About the position

As a Software Engineering Manager at Ruggable, you will lead multiple teams of engineers focused on developing internal applications to enhance operational efficiency. This role involves overseeing the architecture of distributed microservices and full-stack systems, while fostering an engineering mindset through coaching and best practices. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to align software projects with business objectives and ensure a consistent user experience across products.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate quarterly tech roadmap and determine the long-term core product architecture.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align software projects with company objectives and internal customer needs.
  • Clearly understand and communicate how projects relate to business priorities, establish team objectives, and help reinforce that with the rest of the team.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that impede the engineering team's progress.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals.
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance, development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Use metrics to monitor the health and productivity of the team and to understand capacity limitations for forecasting possible headcount changes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in software engineering
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Previous experience as a strong engineer with current stack including React (Next.JS), TypeScript, GraphQL, Node, AWS (Lambda, SQS, SNS, SES, DynamoDB), Kubernetes, PostgreSQL/CockroachDB
  • Experience leading teams to architect and develop applications from scratch
  • Experience building APIs, data-driven applications, and other similar solutions
  • Experience developing and improving team processes (e.g., planning, code review, test automation)
  • Experience in the management of nearshore and offshore contract resources
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess situations and develop effective solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with eCommerce and public-facing applications and how they plug into internal tools (Shopify preferred)
  • Experience in operational and warehouse processes and procedures.
