About the position

The Apple Services Engineering team is a dynamic and innovative group that exemplifies Apple's commitment to merging art and technology. This team is responsible for powering some of Apple's most popular services, including the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. Operating on a global scale, the team meets Apple's high performance standards to deliver a diverse range of entertainment options in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries. The engineers within this team are tasked with building secure, end-to-end solutions, developing custom software for processing creative work, and creating the tools that providers use to deliver media. They also manage server-side systems and APIs for various Apple services, all while adhering to Apple's core value of privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the platform engineering team within the Apple Services Engineering Commerce group.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a scalable commerce platform that supports billions of transactions daily.
  • Ensure high levels of transactional integrity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and security in the services and application components developed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver user-visible features and ensure technical support for language and local market requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for software reuse across different problem domains and design components/libraries/frameworks to support that reuse.
  • Refactor code to achieve higher levels of leverage in the codebase and build reusable capabilities for other teams in the Commerce group.
  • Contribute to the architecture and design of the platform, focusing on creating shared components across applications.

Requirements

  • In-depth experience in developing and leading teams that create large-scale web-based applications.
  • Excellent understanding of relational databases and data-modeling techniques; knowledge of NoSQL databases like Voldemort is a plus.
  • Experience in building and working with RESTful web services and partner integrations.
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in multi-functional environments.
  • Self-starter with the ability to question assumptions and tackle challenges head-on.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with high-volume digital content stores and transactional systems.
  • Familiarity with messaging infrastructure and API integrations with financial systems.
