About the position

The Software Engineering Manager at MathWorks is responsible for leading a team of highly technical Software Engineers in the development of sophisticated software products, specifically focusing on the Control System Toolbox and Simulink Control Design. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing software development efforts while providing mentorship and coaching to team members. The position emphasizes effective project management, process improvements, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct the development of MathWorks' software products.
• Manage a team of 4-8 Software Engineers.
• Guide and coach the development of the Control System Toolbox and Simulink Control Design.
• Provide day-to-day mentorship for Software Engineers on project teamwork.
• Coach direct reports on project planning, execution, and process improvements.
• Set goals and objectives for team members and conduct regular one-on-one meetings.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field and five years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager, or a Ph.D. with three years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with eight years of experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in object-oriented design and analysis using MATLAB.
• Proficient in programming and debugging in MATLAB and Simulink.
• Experience writing algorithms in MATLAB for control design analysis and visualization.
• Knowledge of the full software development life cycle (SDLC) including Agile methodologies.
• Experience applying Lean concepts to manage software development projects.
