About the position

The Software Equity Research Sr. Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Senior Analyst based in New York, who specializes in the software sector at Mizuho Securities. This position involves a variety of responsibilities centered around gathering and analyzing industry information, financial modeling, and writing comprehensive reports on the software sector and the companies under coverage. The ideal candidate will be expected to effectively communicate investment ideas and relevant industry information to both the internal sales team and external investors, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed and equipped with the necessary insights to make informed decisions. In this role, the associate will be tasked with building dynamic industry models that integrate Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements. Writing research reports will also be a significant part of the job, which includes company initiations, industry thought pieces, and earnings recaps. The candidate will need to source alternative data sets and distill complex industry and company information into clear and concise summaries for inclusion in research reports. Conducting proprietary research to evaluate the competitive landscape and analyzing industry and company news will be essential to provide accurate and timely insights. Additionally, the associate will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with industry contacts, which is vital for gathering information and insights that can enhance the quality of research outputs. The candidate will also assist the senior analyst in preparing for marketing events and conferences, ensuring that all presentations and materials are well-prepared and informative. This position requires a highly motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses strong analytical and financial modeling skills, particularly using Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Building dynamic industry models consisting of integrated Income Statement/Balance Sheet/Cash Flow Statements
  • Writing research reports, including company initiations, industry thought pieces, and earnings recaps
  • Sourcing alternative data sets and simplifying and summarizing relevant industry and company information for inclusion in research reports
  • Conducting proprietary research evaluating the competitive landscape, and analyzing industry/company news
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with industry contacts
  • Helping senior analyst prepare for marketing events and conferences

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years sell-side or buyside equity research experience
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills using Excel
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to function independently while maintaining a collegial and collaborative approach to working with other team members
  • Prior, direct experience in the software sector and/or technology industry is a plus

Nice-to-haves

  • Ideally the candidate is based in New York, but other locations will be considered as well
