About the position

The Software Equity Research Sr. Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Senior Analyst covering the Software sector at Mizuho Securities, based in New York. This position involves a comprehensive approach to equity research, focusing on gathering and analyzing industry information, financial modeling, and writing detailed reports on the software sector and the companies under coverage. The candidate will be expected to communicate investment ideas and industry insights effectively to both the internal sales team and external investors, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed about market trends and opportunities. Key responsibilities include building dynamic industry models that integrate Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements. The associate will also be tasked with writing research reports, which may include company initiations, industry thought pieces, and earnings recaps. Sourcing alternative data sets and simplifying relevant industry and company information for inclusion in these reports is essential. Additionally, the role requires conducting proprietary research to evaluate the competitive landscape and analyze industry and company news, which will help in making informed investment decisions. The associate will also be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with industry contacts, which is vital for gathering insights and enhancing the quality of research. Furthermore, assisting the senior analyst in preparing for marketing events and conferences is a key aspect of this role, ensuring that the team is well-prepared to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Building dynamic industry models consisting of integrated Income Statement/Balance Sheet/Cash Flow Statements
  • Writing research reports, including company initiations, industry thought pieces, and earnings recaps
  • Sourcing alternative data sets and simplifying and summarizing relevant industry and company information for inclusion in research reports
  • Conducting proprietary research evaluating the competitive landscape, and analyzing industry/company news
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with industry contacts
  • Helping senior analyst prepare for marketing events and conferences

Requirements

  • Highly motivated professional with a thirst for knowledge and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills using Excel
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to function independently while maintaining a collegial and collaborative approach to working with other team members
  • Minimum of three years sell-side or buyside equity research experience
  • Prior, direct experience in the software sector and/or technology industry is a plus

Nice-to-haves

  • Ideally the candidate is based in New York, but other locations will be considered as well
