About the position

As a Software Field Application Engineer at Hitachi Astemo Americas Inc, you will play a crucial role in providing customer support and ensuring the successful integration of Hitachi's products into customer applications. This position requires you to be the primary interface for customers from the initial program kickoff through to product launch and post-production support. Your responsibilities will primarily focus on software release management and troubleshooting customer issues, whether in a bench environment or directly within customer vehicles. In this role, you will be expected to provide on-site support as needed, which may include flashing software or debugging issues on customer benches or vehicles. You will conduct meetings with customers to gather their requirements and understand the scope of their application functionalities, ensuring that these details are communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders. Building and maintaining strong relationships with key customer contacts will be essential to enhance customer satisfaction and anticipate future needs. You will lead the resolution of all customer-reported issues, coordinating with the design engineering team to ensure timely solutions. Regular communication with customers regarding the status of open issues will be a key part of your responsibilities, including the creation of 8D/5D and root cause documentation. Additionally, you will facilitate communication between customers and various internal teams at Hitachi, such as design engineering, logistics, and quality assurance. Supporting customer field trips and assisting with software baseline creation, software release, and integration testing will also be part of your duties. You will coordinate meetings for design reviews and address customer issues, ensuring a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support when requested by customers, including onsite flashing of software or debugging issues on customer benches or vehicles.
  • Conduct meetings with customers to understand their requirements and the scope of their application functionalities, and communicate these details to stakeholders.
  • Build and improve relationships with key customer contacts to enhance customer satisfaction and understand future needs.
  • Lead the resolution of customer-reported issues, coordinating with the design engineering team and providing weekly status updates to customers.
  • Create 8D/5D and root cause documentation for reported issues.
  • Facilitate communication between customers and Hitachi's internal teams, including design engineering, logistics, and quality assurance.
  • Support customer field trips and assist with software baseline creation, software release, and integration testing.
  • Coordinate meetings between Hitachi and customer teams for design reviews or to address customer issues.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in designing and coding embedded software using C.
  • 2+ years of experience as a field application engineer or in a customer support role.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, specifically 32-bit automotive multi-core micros such as Renesas E2x/RH850, Infineon Aurix TCxx, and NXP MPC55xx.
  • Proficiency with software development tools including Lauterbach T32 debuggers, CAN development tools like CANalyzer and CANape, cross compilers, static code analysis tools, in-circuit debuggers, and serial communication tools.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, current probes, and function generators.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, CANFD, LIN, SENT, Ethernet, UDS, GMLAN, FNOS, and IEEE15765.
  • Experience in application domains such as powertrain, automatic transmission controls, gasoline engine control, diesel engine control, and basic software (BSW).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Experience with PCs and application software, including MS Office tools.

  • Experience with HIL systems and measurement & calibration tools.
