About the position

The Software Intern position at ASRC Federal offers undergraduate college students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in software development to real-world missions, specifically supporting government programs in Columbia, MD. This temporary, hybrid role focuses on maintaining and enhancing open-source software components within NSA's big data environment, including technologies like Apache Accumulo and Hadoop.

Responsibilities

• Provide software design, development, and testing as instructed by the team lead.
• Review and analyze customer requests and provide solutions (code) as required.
• Conduct research on solving and overcoming complex problems.
• Collaborate with other team members.
• Attend weekly standup meetings with the customer and brief progress, challenges, and successes.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Must be a junior or senior in college at the time of application submission.
• Working knowledge of Java and multi-threaded programming.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A positive 'can do' attitude.
• Ability to commute to Columbia, MD when necessary.

Nice-to-haves

• Exposure to Apache Accumulo, Hadoop, Zookeeper, and DataWave.
• Understanding of Agile methodologies.
