About the position

The Software Manager at Oxford Instruments Plc is a pivotal role within the Engineering Management team, responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the development of control systems, graphical user interfaces (GUIs), and advanced analytics. This position is crucial for driving the company's strategy to become a world-class semiconductor equipment supplier, focusing on innovation and product development. The Software Manager will collaborate with various teams to create cutting-edge products and ensure exceptional customer support.

Responsibilities

  • Work with peers across the organization to define and deliver strategic objectives.
  • Develop and drive the software strategy, recommending new tools and techniques to improve product quality.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and procedures in software engineering.
  • Carry out line management for a team of software engineers, providing guidance and technical support.
  • Manage software projects by defining specifications and overseeing delivery.
  • Ensure high quality and documentation of all software produced by the team.
  • Collaborate with the engineering management team to develop customer intimacy and work with other engineering teams.
  • Undertake customer site visits as the senior software representative.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a computing and/or physics-related discipline.
  • Extensive software experience including C++, C, assembler, and PLC programming.
  • Significant management experience in a development team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in PC-based C++ development in a real-time control environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of UML, TCP/UDP socket communications, and serial protocols.
  • Experience with motion control and PLC systems.
  • Understanding of HMI design and continuous integration.
