About the position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Software Process, Modeling, and Measurement Specialist to provide specialized services in software process standards, acquisition document reviews, software metrics analysis, and process improvement coaching. This role is integral to supporting the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and civilian customers in their acquisition of software-intensive systems. The position operates in a hybrid work model, requiring some onsite presence in El Segundo, CA, and is a temporary role with a maximum duration of 18 months.

Responsibilities

  • Review and tailor software process standards for software-intensive system acquisition programs.
  • Review software acquisition documents including development plans, testing plans, and quality reports.
  • Select software measures using Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) methods and specify measurements using Practical Software Measurement (PSM).
  • Analyze and interpret software metrics, advising program office personnel on findings and recommendations.
  • Develop software process maturity assessment instruments.
  • Conduct software product assessments of Aerospace's customer's contractors.
  • Produce static and dynamic software process models for program office recommendations.
  • Coach program office personnel in software development process improvement using methods like Six Sigma.
  • Manage and develop guidance for internal software development projects at Aerospace.
  • Review project plans and progress reports for internal software development projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (computer science, electrical or industrial engineering, mathematics, or closely related field).
  • Eight or more years of experience in software development.
  • Strong technical background in software development processes including requirements gathering and software architecture design.
  • Extensive experience in system design, implementation, and unit testing within agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with integration, systems, and regression testing.
  • Proven expertise in software configuration management and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with a track record of publications and presentations.
  • Ability to apply software process standards and improvement methods such as Six Sigma.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in STEM (computer science, electrical or industrial engineering, mathematics, or closely related field).
  • Experience managing software development projects including estimation and risk management.
  • Familiarity with GQM and PSM methodologies.
  • Experience interpreting software metrics and implementing process improvements.
  • Experience analyzing processes using Six Sigma or other methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of statistics for simulation model analysis.
  • Experience in modeling and simulating software development processes.
  • Experience in statistical design of experiments (DOE) for simulation models.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.
