About the position

The Software Section Manager for Embedded/DevSecOps at Raytheon is responsible for overseeing software personnel to meet program needs, leading and mentoring a diverse team of Software Engineers throughout all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This role involves close collaboration with program leads and architects to ensure alignment with product objectives, managing program execution, and supporting functional management tasks such as hiring and resource allocation. The position requires a strong technical background to inform leadership decisions and includes involvement in proposal work and cost estimation for future projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee software personnel to meet program needs as a first-line manager.
  • Lead and mentor Software Engineers across various experience levels throughout all phases of the SDLC.
  • Collaborate with program leads and architects to ensure product family objectives are met.
  • Manage execution of program families, coordinating between teams and maintaining the agile backlog.
  • Support functional management tasks including hiring and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical guidance and develop career paths for team members.
  • Facilitate productivity improvement and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Participate in proposal work, providing cost estimates based on historical metrics.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years experience in large software development programs.
  • Current/recent experience with programming languages, including C/C++.
  • Lead or management experience in software development.
  • Experience with Atlassian toolsets, Jira, Docker, Coverity or similar tools.
  • Experience in embedded software, signal processing, DevSecOps, or open architecture.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance required prior to start date.
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Top Secret Clearance with Special Access.
  • Prior Agile Product Owner experience in a scrum of scrums environment.
  • Functional management experience including performance management and mentoring.
  • Experience creating software bid estimates.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate team members.
  • Understanding of big picture software architecture.
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Understanding of OMS and Containerization.
