About the position

Bose Corporation is a leading innovator in the field of automotive sound management systems and is successfully extending their market leadership in these areas. We are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to join and guide our team in a dynamic and fast-growing automotive business. The Bose Global R&D Software team is looking for a hands-on Software Systems Engineering Manager to both work as and lead a team of systems engineers in performing systematic analysis, design, and delivery of innovative technologies and experiences. The products and developments include a wide range of technologies ranging from entertainment audio to cabin sound management, as well as a variety of deployment methodologies. This highly self-motivated engineering manager should be excited about managing and leading by example a small team of enthusiastic engineers. You will work closely with internal cross-functional development teams, heavily software-focused, in specifying and designing solutions including but not limited to embedded and laptop-based solutions. Moreover, your team will support Advanced Development in the design and development of advanced experiences and platforms. The candidate should have expert experience with overall systems engineering tasks, including ASPICE expertise. The most successful candidates will also highlight qualifications such as software engineering architecture and development experience. The ideal candidate will be comfortable balancing process creation and management with program delivery. You should be adept throughout the development lifecycle in creating plans that enable successful mature software systems engineering deliverables. The candidate should possess a proven track record of successfully managing a high-performing cross-functional engineering team and have a desire to develop and grow themselves as well as their team to their fullest capability. It is also desirable that the candidate has experience working with global engineering teams, able to globally transfer new technologies and enable reuse. To effectively lead this team, the candidate must maintain close engagement with peers and other stakeholders throughout the automotive development process, including but not limited to applied research, tools development, product management, sales, electronics and software development, and the regional customer teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a team of software systems engineers to perform requirements gathering and analysis, system architecture, solutions feasibility and trade-offs analysis, handle documentation, and ensure efficient execution.
  • Ensure consistency of ASPICE work products across Engineering V Model based on experience with SYS.1-SYS.5.
  • Provide technical leadership and perform hands-on systems engineering tasks.
  • Initiate and drive accountability for systems' deliveries, continuous improvement, and technology advancement within the domain area.
  • Understand the value of requirements-driven development and be an organizational champion.
  • Work closely with algorithm teams to understand algorithms, solicit or determine algorithm needs, and architect solutions that enable the best delivery options.
  • Develop reusable solutions that can be leveraged for scalable deliveries.
  • Partner with engineering and sales to understand OEM needs and architect solutions to ensure the highest quality performance expected of the Bose Brand.
  • Demonstrate and practice people management responsibilities such as talent development, issue management and escalation, motivating and inspiring, coaching.
  • Manage resource estimation and workload demand/forecast for the team.
  • Be an analytical problem solver who thinks in a systems perspective, able to manage small details while keeping an eye on the big picture.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of development team leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with engineering disciplines such as software, mechanical, electrical, acoustics engineering, and signal processing.
  • Familiarity with automotive systems, preferably electronics and/or software-based, including vehicle electronic architectures, infotainment architectures, and automotive NVH.
  • Demonstrable experience with embedded software systems, software architectures, as well as audio architectures is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of general-purpose processor architectures, such as ARM, as well as DSPs and GPUs.
  • Ability to confidently and competently handle multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change.
  • Experience interacting effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, overcoming barriers, and showing resilience in the face of adversity and failure.
  • Experience building new skill sets and change management.
