About the position

The Software Test Engineer position at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding involves designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging applications software and systems. The role requires collaboration with equipment designers and hardware engineers to create effective electronic data processing systems for naval applications. The selected candidate will engage in all aspects of the software development life cycle, focusing on shipboard network-based automation systems, and will be responsible for reviewing software requirements, designing test cases, executing software testing, and improving internal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers.
  • Determine computer user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve problems.
  • Prepare operating instructions and ensure software standards are met.
  • Review software requirements and design test cases to evaluate software performance.
  • Execute software testing and report software issues.
  • Make recommendations to improve internal processes and build automated testing processes.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate test automation frameworks.
  • Perform test automation and develop software applications.
  • Collaborate with other software test engineers and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
  • Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software testing philosophies.
  • Technical emphasis in software testing, electrical, instrumentation, controls, networks, and automation.
  • Deep understanding of the software test lifecycle and test automation.
  • Experience with ISO 29119 Series, ISO 25000 Series.
  • Experience with ISO 12207, IEEE 1012.
  • Proven technical knowledge on test design techniques and test automation.
  • Experience with Object Oriented Programming Languages such as C++, C#, Python.
  • Experience working with databases such as MySQL/MS Access.
  • Experience with software configuration management tools and processes.
  • Experience standing up test automation frameworks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with various teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and developing project schedules, estimates, and metrics.
  • ISTQB Certifications are a plus.
