About the position

The Software Test Engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will focus on automated testing for major enterprise applications utilized by over 7,000 employees. This role involves collaborating with a team to develop and maintain automated and manual tests, ensuring that software requirements are met and that testing strategies are continuously improved. The position is part of the Software Engineering Group within the Application Development Division, contributing to ORNL's mission of accelerating scientific discoveries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automated tests using tools such as Playwright, Selenium, and Katalon.
  • Collaborate with the development team to set up and maintain testing processes that run on demand or with scheduled builds.
  • Ensure tests and documentation meet software requirements in collaboration with the Product Manager.
  • Work with the development team to accurately represent software requirements in epics, features, and user stories.
  • Collaborate with other test engineers to enhance overall testing strategies.
  • Regularly update user stories, tasks, or defects in collaboration with teammates.
  • Align behaviors and interactions with ORNL's core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.

Requirements

  • A BS in business management, information technology, computer science, computer engineering, technology, science, engineering, or a related field and 5-7 years of professional experience.
  • Experience with testing tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Katalon, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of Git for version control, including branching and merging strategies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Real-world experience developing automated tests.
  • Experience working in Agile development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean.
  • Desire to continuously improve technical skills and processes.
