About the position

Forward Slope is a fast-paced global engineering company with a great reputation in the Department of Defense industry (DoD) for over 20 years. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Software Test Engineer to support the entire software testing lifecycle. The ideal candidate will develop, refine, and maintain test documentation; create comprehensive test plans and cases; and manually execute these tests. This role requires a strong understanding of our software systems, the ability to identify edge cases, and a proactive approach to uncovering defects. The Software Test Engineer will work closely with the development team to ensure that quality standards are met and will play an integral part in delivering reliable software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, refine, and maintain comprehensive test plans and cases tied to requirements.
  • Perform thorough manual testing to ensure software meets functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Work closely with software engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive test coverage and clarify requirements.
  • Identify potential edge cases and proactively devise tests to address them.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate with the development team to resolve issues promptly and verify fixes.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to testing strategies, processes, and tools to enhance overall quality and efficiency.
  • Provide regular updates on testing progress, results, and quality metrics to the team.
  • Maintain detailed records of test procedures, results, and any changes in the testing process.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level.
  • Associate degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in software testing and quality assurance.
  • Experience developing test plans and test cases tied to requirements.
  • Experience performing manual test procedures and documenting results.
  • One (1) year of experience using Selenium, Robot, TAF, or equivalent testing frameworks.
  • Three (3) years of experience developing integration tests for Java-based web applications.
  • Three (3) years of experience developing test plans linking test steps to requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to understand complex software systems.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently while collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and testing methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently hold an active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent.
  • CompTIA Linux+ certification or equivalent training/certification(s).
  • Working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Understanding of web-based architectures and microservices.
  • One (1) year of experience using continuous integration tools (e.g., Jenkins, Fortify).
  • One (1) year of experience using automated deployment tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (Confluence, Bitbucket, Jira, etc.).
