About the position

The Soil Conservationist position at the Department of Agriculture involves assisting in the development, planning, contracting, and application of land conservation practices and programs in accordance with NRCS policy and procedures. This role is based in the Soil Conservationist office, assigned to a field or area office within the state, and focuses on addressing resource concerns through effective conservation planning.

Responsibilities

• Gather and assemble preliminary data for resource concerns to develop complete basic farm conservation plans.
• Understand and explain NRCS and Farm Bill programs available to address resource concerns, including cost share programs and payment procedures.
• Carry out follow-up schedules for applying soil conservation practices in accordance with plan and contract schedules.
• Utilize current technology programs for documentation and management of conservation plans and technical assistance.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or US National.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
• Basic education requirement: Degree in soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline.
• Specialized experience for GS-07 level: One year of experience equivalent to GS-5 level in Federal service.
• Specialized experience for GS-09 level: One year of experience equivalent to GS-7 level in Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in providing technical advice in soil conservation plans.
• Knowledge of conservation methods and techniques.
