About the position

The Solar Loan Underwriter at the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF) is responsible for reviewing and analyzing solar loan applications, making loan recommendations, and closing loans. This role is crucial in supporting the organization's mission to provide affordable capital for clean energy projects, particularly through the Solar For All program. The position offers opportunities for personal and professional growth within a fast-growing organization dedicated to climate equity and community development.

Responsibilities

• Review solar loan applications and analyze credit reports.
• Calculate and review various income documents for loan applications.
• Make loan recommendations based on analysis.
• Close loans and authorize home improvement projects to begin.
• Maintain client and portfolio information for accurate reporting.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports regarding lending and underwriting goals.
• Support loan officers and the loan servicing team throughout the financing process.
• Assist in identifying and developing new loan products.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in a relevant field.
• Experience in lending and underwriting, particularly in consumer, construction, green energy, or mortgage/housing loans.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments effectively.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and logical skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in loan closing and loan servicing.
• Experience in consumer underwriting is highly preferable.
