About the position

The Solar Operations Controls Specialist is responsible for the design, development, installation, management, and maintenance of equipment used to monitor and control solar and battery units. This role ensures that systems operate effectively, efficiently, and safely, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The specialist will spend 70% of their time onsite at the Topaz Solar Farm in Santa Margarita, CA, and 30% at the Solar Star Farm in Rosamond, CA, overseeing the lifecycle of solar farm construction projects and providing technical support for instrumentation and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliable, efficient, and safe operation of all controls and measurement systems at the Santa Margarita and Rosamond solar and battery facilities.
  • Provide support to plant operations in daily control problems, continuous process improvements, and remote equipment monitoring.
  • Design and implement new control systems, and test, maintain, and modify existing systems for optimal productivity.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of solar farm construction projects, ensuring completion on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Review process and equipment design for compliance with engineering principles and company standards.
  • Analyze data and write technical reports and recommendations, preparing control system basis of analysis and design documents.
  • Provide technical and consultancy support on instrumentation and controls system for maintenance, operations, engineering, and procurement.
  • Assist in preparing annual capital and expense budgets and developing new business proposals.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5 years of experience managing and configuring Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • 5 years of experience managing projects such as site expansions or equipment upgrades.
  • 5 years of experience with low, medium, and high voltage electrical applications.
  • 5 years of experience with asset and work maintenance systems.
  • 5 years of experience overseeing the lifecycle of solar farm construction projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical process control.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
