About the position

The Solar Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of large utility-scale solar photovoltaic sites. This position involves performing various operations and maintenance services during both pre-commercial and commercial phases, focusing on preventative and corrective maintenance of solar equipment. The technician will work closely with other site employees and customer contacts to uphold safety standards and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by adhering to all NAES safety standards and procedures.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance, including equipment inspections, cleaning, torque checks, thermography, and IV Curve tracing.
  • Address low voltage issues promptly and methodically.
  • Assist in troubleshooting medium and high voltage issues under supervision.
  • Perform entry-level corrective maintenance repairs according to training and authorization.
  • Document all work performed on checklists, service reports, and in the CMMS.
  • Execute site activities in accordance with environmental permits and equipment warranty requirements.
  • Maintain, store, and use all vehicles, tools, and equipment assigned by NAES.
  • Enforce and comply with departmental procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Initiate equipment warranty claims as needed.
  • Complete administrative tasks including time sheets and incident reports.

Requirements

  • Experience in solar photovoltaic plant operations and maintenance is essential.
  • Experience and/or training as an electrician or electrical technician is required.
  • Hands-on experience in testing, analyzing, and conducting preventive maintenance on photovoltaic inverter systems and data acquisition systems is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of solar industry best practices and national electric code (NEC) requirements is expected.
  • Experience with SCADA systems for monitoring and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative abilities are required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and self-drive are necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • NABCEP certification or other component specific solar certifications preferred.
  • Experience with photovoltaic construction is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical hazard awareness is beneficial.
