About the position

The Solar Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of residential solar systems, including photovoltaic (PV) inverters, string boxes, and solar panels. This role involves both preventative and corrective maintenance, ensuring that solar systems are set up correctly and functioning efficiently. The technician will also assist in project installations and perform various repairs as needed, while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on PV inverters, string boxes, and solar panels.
  • Assist in the commissioning of solar arrays and monitoring systems during project installation.
  • Ensure proper setup of PV systems.
  • Conduct re-roofs, roof repairs, and drywall repairs as needed.
  • Install hardware, PV modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment.
  • Perform commissioning of inverters and inspect solar panels.
  • Conduct mechanical/structural mounting of racking, modules, and electrical equipment.
  • Respond to corrective maintenance cases on PV systems, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform electrical wiring of solar arrays/systems (AC and DC).
  • Conduct voltage testing using appropriate PPE and procedures.
  • Prepare reports to comply with O&M contract deliverables.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions on new products and safety.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies and safety standards.
  • Identify safety risks and provide recommendations to management.
  • Repair various types of roofs and ground mounts.
  • Add or remove panels on solar systems and identify roof leaks.
  • Understand electrical panels and monitoring equipment.
  • Read and understand plans and AHJ guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot inverters reporting production loss.
  • Understand battery backup systems and standalone metering equipment.
  • Perform required travel for business purposes.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of 1+ year solar experience.
  • Experience with electrical and roof racking systems.
  • Experience installing grid-tied inverters and working with various mounting systems.
  • Knowledge of PV component performance and HALT testing.
  • Experience in electrical troubleshooting (power outages, shorts, faults).
  • Familiarity with electrical plans and field layouts.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of NEC codes related to PV installations.
  • Strong attention to productivity, detail, and safety.
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in confined areas.
  • Physical ability to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment (up to 50 pounds).
  • Willingness to climb ladders and work on rooftops.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Enphase, SolarEdge, and Sunpower equipment.
  • Knowledge of Zigbee and other monitoring equipment.
  • Experience with battery backup systems.
