About the position

The Solenoid & Linear Actuator Design Engineer III position at Blue Origin focuses on developing electric motors and solenoids for cryogenic hydrogen and oxygen pumps used in the Lunar Lander for NASA's Artemis mission. This role is integral to the Lunar Permanence business unit, which aims to create sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the lunar surface. The engineer will oversee the entire life cycle of the drives, from requirements definition to operation on the moon, contributing to the mission of enabling human presence in space.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electromagnetic motor and solenoid design for cryogenic pump drives.
  • Develop technical development roadmaps and define capabilities for lunar applications.
  • Manage the complete life cycle of drive development from requirements definition to operation.
  • Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System program.
  • Ensure safety and repeatability in space flight operations.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in solenoid & linear actuator design using software like Motor-CAD, Maxwell, MotorSolve, or SPEED.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering, specifically in requirements and interface management.
  • Experience with cryogenic or aerospace applications.
