About the position

The Solid Waste Supervisor - Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and managing staff involved in various solid waste activities and operations. This role includes establishing schedules, ensuring work quality, and performing technical tasks related to solid waste management. The position is safety-sensitive and requires adherence to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign, train, and review the work of staff responsible for solid waste activities and services.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned solid waste activities and services.
  • Ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform technical and complex tasks related to assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in environmental science, business administration, vehicle maintenance, or accounting.
  • Five years of solid waste experience in areas such as vehicle maintenance, collections, disposal, or code enforcement.
  • One year of supervisory or lead experience.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of property liens and abatements, clean up and billing procedures.
  • Knowledge of operations and services of residential and commercial large item and recycling collections.
  • Understanding of state and federal laws regulating interstate highway work zones.
  • Familiarity with solid waste programs and activities of a landfill and material recycling facility.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $60,548.80 - $66,747.20 per year.
