About the position

Sunstream Boat Lifts is seeking a SolidWorks Drafter/Designer with shop experience who is eager to develop their profession within a rapidly growing company. As a key member of our Engineering Team, you will be responsible for creating products and documents in SolidWorks, as well as building and testing prototypes to ensure that our innovative boat lifts operate and are manufactured to the highest standards. This position requires a high level of proficiency in SolidWorks, as you will be creating and modifying parts, assemblies, and drawings. You will also be expected to work closely with the shop floor team to assemble prototype products and accessories, fabricating simple parts as needed. In addition to your design responsibilities, you will participate in product testing and communicate results effectively with the Engineering, Quality, and Production teams. Your role will also involve revising manufacturing drawings in a controlled drawing vault using SolidWorks and PDM, ensuring that all documentation meets high-quality standards. You will need to physically inspect parts and assemblies to create new or as-built drawings, and work collaboratively with Supply Chain personnel to correct and improve drawings. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to quickly understand equipment operation and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with machining, casting, and extruding processes will be beneficial. You will also be expected to generate clear graphics to illustrate product definitions and assembly instructions for use in manufacturing and customer service. A desire to work in a small team in a fast-paced environment where change and growth are expected is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Create CAD models and drawings of mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Assemble prototype products and accessories on the shop floor.
  • Fabricate simple parts by cutting and drilling.
  • Participate in product testing and communicate results.
  • Contribute as a member of the Engineering Team in designing and releasing new Sunstream products on a committed schedule.
  • Revise manufacturing drawings in a controlled drawing vault using SolidWorks and PDM.
  • Physically inspect parts and assemblies for creating new or as-built drawings.
  • Work with shop floor and Supply Chain personnel in correcting and improving drawings.
  • Create 3D prints for various testing, measuring, and part marking.
  • Communicate effectively with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams regarding task completion and workload progress.
  • Suggest product and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient in creating and modifying SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Demonstrated skill in SolidWorks; expertise in SolidWorks PDM desired.
  • Competent with basic shop tools used to fabricate and assemble products.
  • Familiar with standard shop safety practices in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience with drawing standards for high-quality manufacturing prints.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing tolerances and weld symbols is important.
  • High mechanical aptitude with the ability to quickly understand equipment operation and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of machining, casting, and extruding is beneficial.
  • Ability to generate clear graphics to illustrate product definition and assembly.
  • Writing skills appropriate for clarifying and improving manuals and shop procedures.
  • Experience or aptitude to learn Rhino software for processing point cloud scans and wireframe models.
