The Principal Architect is responsible for leadership, facilitation, analysis, and design tasks related to the development of an enterprise technical architecture that applies across multiple Comerica business domains, with a focus on complex payments platforms and products. This role provides technology direction and guidance for strategic projects and initiatives aligned with enterprise architecture principles and considerations. The Principal Architect will leverage deep expertise in overall systems architecture across various layers, including application, operating system, data, network, storage, and security, as well as their inter-dependencies across business domains and implications. In this position, the Principal Architect will perform research activities to identify emerging technologies and trends that may affect the enterprise. They will maintain awareness of vendor and product industry developments, regulations, and trends, identifying potential impacts to the enterprise. The role also involves assisting in vendor and product selection activities, including the development of vendor/product evaluation models used in Requests for Proposal (RFPs). Additionally, the Principal Architect will design and oversee efforts in building effective bank-specific Proof of Concept demonstrations and socialize the results throughout the enterprise and all levels of management. The Principal Architect will lead or support enterprise capability definition aligned with business strategy, providing technical and business consulting to internal IS organizations and client-sponsored activities outside of IS. They will acquire and maintain a deep understanding of Comerica's business domain-specific processes, supporting applications, integrations and dependencies, security model, and technology constraints and limitations. Analyzing the business drivers that determine key architecture requirements is also a critical aspect of this role. The Principal Architect will be highly engaged and drive strategic domain-specific initiatives and programs from a technology perspective, developing and maintaining strong relationships with business domain leadership to keep track of changing business needs and priorities. Furthermore, the Principal Architect will perform technical architecture planning activities, facilitate and develop architectural standards for key technologies, and mentor Agile/DevOps practices and procedures among domain teams. They will facilitate the development and evolution of the architecture and global governance processes, define and facilitate the process for approving architecture principles and standards, and develop, collect, and analyze Enterprise Architecture metrics to identify continual improvement opportunities.
