About the position

The Solution Development Engineer position at Johnson Controls focuses on providing pre-sales system and project development engineering services for large complex building projects, specifically in the areas of Controls and Fire Alarm solutions. This role is integral to the company's digital growth strategy, requiring collaboration with sales teams to create innovative solutions that meet customer needs and drive business objectives. The position involves technical sales assistance, project cost management, and the development of engineering designs and specifications for building automation and fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the pre-sales development process for Metasys Building Automation System (BAS) or Simplex Fire Alarm solutions.
  • Administer the Major Projects project development process across North America.
  • Provide technical sales assistance and coordinate pre-bid and pre-book estimate reviews.
  • Develop detailed applications for customer contracts, including project development files and engineering designs.
  • Manage project financial and execution risk strategies, ensuring customer satisfaction and project success.
  • Assist the sales team in communicating technical value propositions to customers.
  • Develop system schematics, scope, and cost estimates for system installation projects.
  • Maintain relationships with key suppliers and stay updated on new technologies and compliance standards.
  • Perform detailed engineering or cost impact analysis to quantify customer benefits.
  • Act as a liaison between Sales and System Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Demonstrated computer and analytical skills.
  • Five to seven years of experience in Controls sales/operations with HVAC systems or Fire Alarm sales/operations with design and installation of fire alarm systems.
  • Background in Installation Operations as an Application Engineer or Installation Project Manager preferred.
  • NICET Level III certification for Fire Alarm systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with critical environment and laboratory control systems.
  • Knowledge of smart building technologies and trends in the HVAC and BAS industry.
  • Participation in ASHRAE or other relevant professional organizations.
