About the position

As a GIS subject matter expert at Esri, you will play a pivotal role in identifying the right analysis tools for various business challenges faced by local and state governments. Your expertise will not only involve creating innovative GIS solutions but also effectively communicating these solutions to engage and excite customers about the potential of GIS technology. You will join an account team where your primary responsibility will be to advise customers on their most complex business challenges, leveraging your problem-solving skills to demonstrate the value of GIS in uncovering unique patterns, trends, and insights that can drive decision-making. In this position, you will build strong relationships with clients, presenting and demonstrating Esri software and solutions as part of the account team. You will support your team in planning and executing sales strategies, ensuring that you become a subject matter expert in state and local government operations as well as a technical expert in ArcGIS. Your ability to speak confidently about Esri technologies will be crucial, as you will need to anticipate customer needs and understand the technology trends that may impact them. Your role will also involve proactively crafting and proposing solutions that clarify how GIS can bring business value to our customers by addressing their critical challenges. You will define and deliver strategies that align Esri technology with their business objectives. Additionally, you will present technical demonstrations of proposed solutions to customers, designing presentations that cater to both technical and non-technical audiences. Your expertise will also be showcased at conferences and trade shows, where you will provide best practices related to the use, deployment, and administration of Esri technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Present, demonstrate, and support selling Esri software and solutions as part of the account team.
  • Become a subject matter expert in state and local government and a technical expert in ArcGIS.
  • Speak confidently with customers about Esri technologies and communicate the Esri message effectively.
  • Proactively craft and propose solutions that clarify how GIS brings business value to customers.
  • Define and deliver strategies that align Esri technology with customer business needs.
  • Present technical demonstrations of proposed solutions to customers.
  • Design presentations for both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Provide best practices related to the use, deployment, and administration of Esri technology.
  • Present at conferences and trade shows.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Esri technology creating maps, performing spatial analysis, and configuring web applications.
  • 1+ years of experience working in or supporting local or state government.
  • Understanding of ArcGIS from an IT context (hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, and cloud computing).
  • Experience in technical consulting and conceptual solution design, with an understanding of sales and business development processes.
  • Experience with geodatabases and underlying DBMS technology.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and environments (Microsoft Azure or AWS).
  • Remarkable presentation, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally 25-50%.
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to troubleshoot client issues related to Esri application deployment and system architecture.
  • Experience integrating software solutions with other business systems including data warehousing, BI, CRM, ERP, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience incorporating real-time information streams with existing GIS data and IT infrastructure.
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence/machine learning concepts.
  • Programming and scripting experience with languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Master's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.
