About the position

As a GIS subject matter expert at Esri, you will play a pivotal role in identifying the right analysis tools for various business challenges faced by local government entities in Southern California. Your expertise in GIS technology will not only allow you to create innovative solutions but also to communicate these solutions effectively, inspiring others about the potential of GIS. You will join an account team where your primary responsibility will be to advise customers on their most complex business challenges, leveraging your problem-solving skills to demonstrate the value of GIS in uncovering unique patterns and trends that can lead to better decision-making. In this position, you will build strong relationships with clients by presenting, demonstrating, and supporting the sale of Esri software and solutions. As a subject matter expert in state and local government, as well as a technical expert in ArcGIS, you will confidently engage with customers, articulating the Esri message and anticipating their needs. Your role will involve proactively crafting and proposing solutions that highlight how GIS can address critical challenges faced by customers, thereby aligning Esri technology with their business strategies. You will also be responsible for delivering technical demonstrations of proposed solutions, designing presentations tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences, and providing best practices for the use, deployment, and administration of Esri technology. Additionally, you will have opportunities to present at conferences and trade shows, further establishing your expertise in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with clients and support the sales team in executing strategies for selling Esri software and solutions.
  • Become a subject matter expert in state and local government and a technical expert in ArcGIS.
  • Proactively craft and propose solutions that demonstrate the business value of GIS to customers.
  • Define and deliver strategies that align Esri technology with customer business needs.
  • Present technical demonstrations of proposed solutions to customers, designing presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide best practices related to the use, deployment, and administration of Esri technology.
  • Present at conferences and trade shows to showcase Esri solutions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Esri technology creating maps, performing spatial analysis, and configuring web applications.
  • 1+ years of experience working in or supporting state or local government.
  • Understanding of ArcGIS from an IT context, including hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, and cloud computing.
  • Experience in technical consulting and conceptual solution design, with an understanding of sales and business development processes.
  • Experience with geodatabases and underlying DBMS technology.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and environments, such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Remarkable presentation, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally 25-50%.
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to troubleshoot client issues related to Esri application deployment and system architecture.
  • Experience integrating software solutions with other business systems, including data warehousing, BI, CRM, ERP, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience incorporating real-time information streams with existing GIS data and IT infrastructure.
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence/machine learning concepts.
  • Programming and scripting experience with languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Master's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.
