About the position

As a GIS subject matter expert at Esri, you will play a pivotal role in identifying the right analysis tools for complex business challenges faced by state and local government clients. Your expertise in GIS technology will enable you to create innovative solutions that not only address these challenges but also excite others about the potential of GIS. You will join an account team where your problem-solving skills will be essential in demonstrating the value of GIS, helping clients uncover unique patterns and trends that can drive their decision-making processes. In this position, you will be responsible for building strong relationships with clients, presenting and demonstrating Esri software and solutions, and supporting your team in executing effective sales strategies. As a subject matter expert, you will need to communicate confidently about Esri technologies, anticipate customer needs, and stay informed about technology trends that may impact their operations. Your role will also involve proactively crafting and proposing solutions that clarify how GIS can bring business value to our customers, ensuring that the strategies you deliver align with their specific business objectives. Additionally, you will be tasked with presenting technical demonstrations of proposed solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences, designing presentations that effectively convey the benefits of Esri technology. You will also have opportunities to present at conferences and trade shows, showcasing your expertise and the innovative solutions Esri offers.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Present, demonstrate, and support the selling of Esri software and solutions as part of the account team.
  • Become a subject matter expert in state and local government and a technical expert in ArcGIS.
  • Communicate confidently with customers about Esri technologies and the value they provide.
  • Proactively craft and propose solutions that address critical challenges faced by customers.
  • Define and deliver strategies that align Esri technology with customer business needs.
  • Present technical demonstrations of proposed solutions to customers.
  • Design presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide best practices related to the use, deployment, and administration of Esri technology.
  • Present at conferences and trade shows.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Esri technology creating maps, performing spatial analysis, and configuring web applications.
  • 1+ years of experience working in or supporting state or local government.
  • Understanding of ArcGIS from an IT context (hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, cloud computing).
  • Experience in technical consulting and conceptual solution design, with an understanding of sales and business development processes.
  • Experience with geodatabases and underlying DBMS technology.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and environments (Microsoft Azure or AWS).
  • Remarkable presentation, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally 25-50%.
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to troubleshoot client issues related to Esri application deployment and system architecture.
  • Experience integrating software solutions with other business systems including data warehousing, BI, CRM, ERP, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience incorporating real-time information streams with existing GIS data and IT infrastructure.
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence/machine learning concepts.
  • Programming and scripting experience with languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Master's degree in geography, computer science, or a related field.
