About the position

Lumen is seeking passionate Solution Engineers who are eager to leverage technology innovation for the betterment of humanity. This customer-facing role is integral to our Sales & Customer Success teams, where you will lead innovative discussions that help shape the growth of our enterprise customers as they navigate the 4th Industrial Evolution. As a Solution Engineer, you will design and architect solutions utilizing our technology services platform, ensuring that you understand business requirements and develop a technical sales strategy that effectively presents solutions that provide business value. In this role, you will analyze customer needs through strategic discovery, utilizing your technical thought leadership to discuss industry best practices and present our product offerings tailored to each customer's specific business requirements. Your goal will be to recommend and propose solutions that position you as a trusted advisor, highlighting how our products enable digital business strategies. You will be responsible for leading customer meetings, both in person and via collaboration tools, preparing and delivering technical proposals and presentations that resonate with the audience. Your strong solution selling abilities and proactive customer communications will be essential as you interact with all levels of the customer's management team. Additionally, you will analyze and identify customer business and technology objectives, conduct full technical discovery, and architect client solutions that meet their requirements. Your ability to craft and propose custom solutions will differentiate Lumen's services and ensure that we meet our customers' objectives effectively. As a customer advocate, you will participate in pre-sales efforts, including technical sales presentations, architecture design discussions, and proof-of-concept engagements. You will also support local sales teams in pursuing key business opportunities and collaborate with various teams to deliver appropriate solutions, establishing credibility and trust with customers. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, sales acumen, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and attend customer meetings in person and via collaboration tools.
  • Prepare and deliver technical proposals and presentations tailored to the audience.
  • Provide broad scope responses to solution and technology questions.
  • Demonstrate strong solution selling abilities and effective customer communications.
  • Analyze and identify customer business and technology objectives through technical discovery.
  • Architect client solutions to meet gathered requirements and assess business impacts.
  • Craft and propose custom solutions that differentiate Lumen's services.
  • Advise customers and sales teams on technical aspects of proposed solutions.
  • Provide internal feedback to product management regarding customer experience and product features.
  • Act as a customer advocate in pre-sales efforts, including technical presentations and architecture discussions.
  • Support local sales teams in pursuing key business opportunities and engage customers in the data lifecycle.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in technology-focused pre-sales, engineering, or consulting.
  • Technical pre-sales and/or consulting experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture and Design.
  • Technical knowledge across one or more Lumen technology pillars (Global network infrastructure, edge cloud capabilities, connected security, communication and collaboration services).
  • Ability to lead technical workshops and engage in RFP discussions with mid-level IT stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to build complex customer solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to present high-quality solutions to technical and executive audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry certifications in one or more specialized technologies.
  • Experience in solution consulting - ITIL.
  • Basic understanding of Cloud & Architecture design.
  • Basic understanding of Network Functions Virtualization.
  • Basic understanding of Security solutions.
