About the position

Lumen is seeking passionate Solution Engineers who are eager to leverage technology innovation for the betterment of humanity. This customer-facing role is integral to our Sales & Customer Success teams, where you will lead innovative discussions that help shape the growth of our enterprise customers as they navigate the 4th Industrial Evolution. As a Solution Engineer, you will design and architect solutions utilizing our technology services platform, requiring a strong desire to combine technical and sales skills with business acumen. Your role will involve understanding business requirements, developing a technical sales strategy, and effectively presenting solutions that address our customers' needs and provide significant business value. In this position, you will analyze customer needs through strategic discovery, utilizing your technical thought leadership to discuss industry best practices and present our product offerings tailored to each customer's specific business requirements. Your goal will be to recommend and propose solutions that position you as a trusted advisor, highlighting how our products can enable digital business strategies. You will be expected to lead and attend customer meetings, both in person and via collaboration tools, preparing and delivering technical proposals and presentations that resonate with the audience. Your ability to interact with all levels of a customer's management team will be crucial. The Solution Engineer will also be responsible for developing customer solutions by analyzing their business and technology objectives, conducting thorough technical discovery, and crafting custom solutions that differentiate Lumen's services. You will act as a customer advocate, participating in pre-sales efforts, including technical sales presentations, architecture design discussions, and proof-of-concept engagements. Additionally, you will support local sales teams in pursuing key business opportunities and collaborate with various internal teams to deliver the appropriate solutions, establishing credibility and trust with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and attends customer meetings in person and via collaboration tools.
  • Prepares and delivers technical proposals and presentations tailored to the audience.
  • Provides broad scope responses to solution and technology questions.
  • Demonstrates strong solution selling abilities and effective customer communications.
  • Analyzes and identifies customer business and technology objectives through technical discovery.
  • Architects client solutions to meet gathered requirements and assess business impacts.
  • Crafts and proposes custom solutions that meet customer requirements and objectives.
  • Advises customers and sales teams on technical aspects of proposed solutions.
  • Participates in pre-sales efforts including technical sales presentations and architecture design discussions.
  • Acts as a customer advocate, delivering findings and proposed solutions to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in technical pre-sales, engineering, consulting, or a similar background.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical knowledge of Enterprise Architecture and Design.
  • Familiarity with Lumen technology pillars such as global network infrastructure and edge cloud capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills to engage in technical workshops and discussions with mid-level IT stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead complex deal discussions with internal teams and drive solutions.
  • General problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex issues methodically.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to build complex customer solutions.
  • Strong presentation skills to deliver high-quality solutions to technical and executive audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry certifications in one or more specialized technologies.
  • Experience in solution consulting, particularly ITIL.
  • Fundamental understanding of Cloud & Architecture design.
  • Fundamental understanding of Network Functions Virtualization.
  • Fundamental understanding of Security solutions.
