About the position

The Solutions Architect for the Air Traffic Management Domain at Southwest Airlines plays a crucial role in defining technology solutions that align with enterprise strategies and standards. This position serves as a bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating business needs into effective technology solutions. The architect will work within the Aircraft Operations Network Management Architecture Team, contributing to the growth of technology teams through mentoring and promoting architectural standards. This role is primarily remote but may require occasional travel for training and meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Technology Teams to establish an architecture that meets SWA technology standards
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define the technical strategy and roadmap for business domain products
  • Act as a trusted advisor to define business intent and non-functional requirements
  • Contribute to the growth of SWA Technology Teams through hiring, coaching, and mentoring
  • Research and identify current and emerging technologies to enhance business value delivery
  • Design, build, refactor, or operate large-scale IT projects in cloud or on-premises environments
  • Translate stakeholder intent into cohesive solution architectures aligned with enterprise strategies
  • Review high-level functional requirements and provide implementation estimates
  • Define non-functional requirements in collaboration with stakeholders and IT teams
  • Support planning of solution deployment activities and sequencing
  • Review and approve IT team designs to ensure alignment with solution architecture
  • Create and present Architecture Review Board content to peers and leadership
  • Define and review technical criteria for vendor evaluations and package selections

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • Expert-level experience in architecture design and implementation of large-scale distributed systems
  • Basic understanding of project management methodology and principles, with experience in SAFe preferred
  • Experience with Domain Driven Design and Event Driven Architecture preferred
  • Experience with AWS Services including Dynamo, Serverless, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, VPC, Kinesis, Event Bridge preferred
  • Experience with Enterprise Integration Patterns and Messaging Patterns preferred
  • Experience with Relational and NoSQL Databases preferred
  • Knowledge of modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Go, .NET, Java

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS certification preferred
  • Experience with Microservices Architecture
  • Experience integrating with SaaS solutions
