About the position

As a Solutions Architect at Snowflake, you will play a pivotal role in the modernization of data platforms for our enterprise customers. This position is part of the Professional Services Organization, which is dedicated to providing a comprehensive set of technical capabilities and best practices for data modernization. Your primary responsibility will be to lead customers through the migration process from Scala environments into Snowpark, ensuring that they achieve exceptional outcomes during their modernization projects. You will act as the technical lead and expert, guiding customers through the complexities of migrating applications, code, and data onto cloud platforms, specifically Snowflake. In this role, you will engage directly with customers, running workshops and design sessions to outline the architecture of their Spark and Scala environments. You will also troubleshoot migration issues, create repeatable processes, and develop documentation based on customer engagements. Your expertise in scripting with Python and shell scripts for ETL workflows will be essential in optimizing Snowflake for performance and cost. Additionally, you will communicate requirements for the Snowconvert utility, ensuring that our tooling is continuously improved based on real-world implementation experiences. Your contributions will not only enhance customer satisfaction but also drive the development of frameworks for distributed computing, Apache Spark, PySpark, and machine learning as part of our modernization processes. This role reports to the Director of Data Engineering and Snowpark within the Workload Solutions team in the PS&T organization at Snowflake.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the migration of applications, code, and data onto cloud platforms, specifically Snowflake.
  • Outline the architecture of Spark and Scala environments for customers.
  • Guide customers in architecting and building data engineering pipelines on Snowflake.
  • Run workshops and design sessions with stakeholders and customers to facilitate understanding and engagement.
  • Troubleshoot migration issues and provide solutions to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Create repeatable processes and documentation based on customer engagement experiences.
  • Script using Python and shell scripts for ETL workflows to enhance data processing capabilities.
  • Develop best practices and ensure knowledge transfer to enable customers to extend Snowflake's capabilities independently.
  • Provide guidance on resolving customer-specific technical challenges and outline a testing strategy and plan.
  • Optimize Snowflake for performance and cost efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role dealing with complex implementation projects.
  • Proven track record of delivering results in multi-party, multi-year digital transformation engagements.
  • Experience in Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, AI/ML, application modernization, or Cloud projects.
  • Ability to build real-time and batch data pipelines using Spark and Scala.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively translate technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Outstanding presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability to anticipate project roadblocks and develop mitigation plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark, PySpark, and HBase.
  • Familiarity with Kafka and REST-based APIs.
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application in data engineering.
