About the position

Siemens is seeking a Solutions Engineer - PLC Programmer to join our team in Grand Prairie, TX. This role is pivotal in integrating hardware and software for Electrical Power Monitoring, enabling customers to monitor their energy consumption effectively. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing energy management solutions and utilizing Sm@rtGear technology for remote monitoring and control of electrical apparatus. In this position, you will be tasked with understanding and applying safety procedures while following standard project documentation to ensure project completion. You will identify problems as they arise and take proactive steps to resolve them, performing basic tasks independently in a professional fieldwork environment. Your responsibilities will include preparing explanations for technical data interpretation, ensuring adherence to defined guidelines and processes, and writing standard and customized SOO and test procedures based on customer specifications. Additionally, you will support the Test and Quality Control team in troubleshooting and testing Sm@rtGear jobs, review schematics for circuit breaker controls and PLC automation systems, and provide remote support to site solution engineers and technicians. This role requires a strong foundation in automation systems, testing, and solutions, with a focus on energy management. You will work closely with various teams to ensure the successful integration of third-party devices into PLC programs, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our solutions. Responsibilities

  • Implements hardware and software for energy management/monitoring solutions and Sm@rtGear Apparatus.
  • Understands and applies safety procedures.
  • Follows basic standard project documentation for project completion.
  • Identifies problems as they occur and takes proactive steps to solve them.
  • Independently performs basic tasks and functions for professional field work.
  • Prepares explanations to enable proper interpretation/evaluation of specifications, performance characteristics, or other technical data.
  • Ensures adherence to defined guidelines, processes, and procedures for project creation by reviewing engineering schematics.
  • Writes standard and customized SOO and test procedures based on customer specifications.
  • Supports the Test and Quality Control team at the manufacturing floor environment in testing and troubleshooting Sm@rtGear jobs.
  • Works with the Test and Quality Control team to identify issues related to automation.
  • Reviews schematics for circuit breakers controls, PLC automation systems, and network architecture.
  • Remotely supports site solution engineers and other site technicians in troubleshooting automation-related issues.
  • Composes integration of third-party devices into PLC Program.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in engineering, Computer Information Systems, or similar technical related field.
  • 5 plus years of prior professional experience in Automation Systems, Testing, and Solutions.
  • Experience with serial communications (i.e. RS 485) and conversions to TCP/IP.
  • Experience with communication protocols: Modbus, Profibus, OPC.
  • Network, communication protocols, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple operating systems including servers.
  • Experience working with TIA Portal environment with Step 7 and WinCC Professional and Unified Engineering.
  • Experience with S7 PLC Redundancy.
  • Experience with DIGSI and Siprotec Relays.
  • Proficient with various programming languages, including Ladder, C++, SCL, etc.
  • Experience creating custom graphics for use with HMI GUI.
  • Must possess the ability to travel up to 50% for providing field training.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US with no sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with other groups or teams.
  • In-depth PLC programming experience.
  • In-depth experience with Utilities, Metering, and/or Networking (TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Time and task management skills (e.g., Project Manager, Project Engineer).
