About the position

Graham Media Group is seeking an IT Broadcast Solutions Engineer with a broad background in both Information and Broadcast Technologies to lead in the support of GMG corporate infrastructure and applications. This role is critical as you will be part of a 24/7 on-call team responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, and highly available network architectures for both business and broadcast applications that meet GMG's business objectives. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of broadcast systems. As an IT Broadcast Solutions Engineer, you will be tasked with providing station support, which includes WideOrbit administration and support, as well as managing AWS networks. You will handle second-level user support requests from Station IT departments and collaborate with Station staff and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues. Additionally, you will create and maintain a variety of computer images for Windows and Mac OS systems, ensuring that all systems are up-to-date and functioning optimally. In terms of corporate support and projects, you will evaluate new product versions and recommend upgrade schedules. Testing and documenting system behavior, performance, and security will be essential parts of your role. You will also plan, design, and implement IT-based broadcast solutions, including graphics, editing, archiving, transmission, and monitoring. Managing Active Directory, Group Policies, and Logon Scripts will be part of your responsibilities, along with installing, configuring, maintaining, and upgrading Microsoft Windows and Linux-based server operating systems and applications. Establishing and documenting deployment standards and procedures for supporting applications will be crucial, as will providing on-call support 24/7 as part of a scheduled rotation.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Systems Administrator, IT Support, or Analyst role.
  • At least 2 years of supporting a broadcast/live production environment.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments, supporting critical on-air broadcast systems.
  • Functional understanding of live news production workflows, media asset management, and professional video format standards.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast transmission technologies including microwave, video over IP, multicast, unicast, and CDNs.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI model.
  • Knowledge of the full TCP/IP stack and its routing protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge of deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco or Arista networking hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of WideOrbit applications.
  • Knowledge of Oracle cloud applications.
  • Familiarity with National Institute of Standards and Practices (NIST).
  • Working knowledge of Palo Alto or other firewalls.
  • Experience with CrowdStrike, Network Access Control appliances such as CounterAct Forescout, and any IPS/IDS systems.
