About the position

The Sonographer 1 position in Cardiology at the University of Rochester involves assisting in various technical procedures using high-frequency ultrasound waves for diagnostic purposes. The role is designed for individuals who are developing their skills in cardiology and ultrasound technologies, working under the guidance of senior sonographers to gain expertise in performing echocardiographic studies and supporting clinical decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with routine and specialized echocardiographic studies, including transthoracic, stress echocardiographic techniques, transesophageal and contrast exams.
  • Obtains pertinent patient medical history to optimize the exam for appropriateness.
  • Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound studies in accordance with universal precautions.
  • Obtains vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight, and evaluates any contraindications.
  • Works with senior sonographer to perform necessary cardiac measurements and generate preliminary findings.
  • Maintains active registry status in adult cardiac sonography (RDCS/RCS) through continuing professional education.
  • Keeps lab and exam rooms in clean, working order, including cleaning ultrasound equipment and reporting malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • 2 years of experience in cardiac imaging or related field or successful completion of accredited cardiac echo sonographer training program required.
  • Working knowledge of cardiology, cardiovascular hemodynamics, doppler physics/instrumentation, cardiac and vascular ultrasound technologies required.
  • RDCS/RCS certification required; RVT certification preferred.
