About the position

The Sonographer (MFM) at Pediatrix Medical Group is responsible for providing diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. This role involves working independently and collaboratively with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care for pregnant women, maintaining patient records, and assisting physicians with procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting.
• Escort patients and families to and from examination rooms.
• Explain exams to patients and families prior to commencement to ensure cooperation and optimal results.
• Acquire anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician interpretation.
• Maintain patient charts and records, and process sonographic data for physician review.
• Create preliminary reports for physician review and signature.
• Review studies with physicians and assist with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
• Code services performed appropriately.
• Maintain proper operation of ultrasound equipment and recognize malfunctions.
• Maintain laundry for examination rooms and adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
• Follow accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining various imaging types.
• Comply with universal precautions and OSHA standards, as well as safety and security training.
• Rotate to cover Sonographer absences as needed.
• Perform related and other assigned duties as directed.

Requirements

• Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
• ARDMS OB/GYN certified or eligible.
• Fetal echo certification or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire; fetal echo experience preferred.
• Completion of a program containing OB/GYN ultrasonography.
• CPR certification required.
• Satisfactory completion of at least two years in Allied Health Educational Program and one year on-the-job training in ultrasonography, or completion of an approved ultrasonography educational program.
• Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
• Provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
