About the position

The Sonographer is responsible for performing sonography imaging procedures, including routine and complex exams, in accordance with established protocols and guidelines. This role involves reviewing patient history, ensuring the accuracy of radiology orders, and maintaining imaging equipment. The Sonographer also plays a key role in patient safety and may assist in training new staff or students.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex sonography imaging procedures.
  • Select proper sonography protocols and techniques to obtain optimal data.
  • Review cases with the radiologist when appropriate.
  • Review labs and patient history to perform correct exams.
  • Review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Acquire additional information from patients or providers as needed.
  • Critique imaging quality standards and ensure proper positioning and technical factors.
  • Transfer and verify image data in PACS and other digital systems.
  • Maintain imaging equipment and workplace environment.
  • Report malfunctions and service needs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient, visitor, and environmental safety.
  • Assist in instruction of students and new staff as necessary.
  • Meet productivity levels established by department benchmarking.
  • Assist other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
  • Perform duties of other modalities within the department as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in sonography imaging procedures.
  • Knowledge of imaging protocols and techniques.
  • Ability to review and interpret patient history and clinical data.
  • Familiarity with PACS and digital reporting systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance skills.
  • Ability to maintain imaging equipment and workplace safety.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training or mentoring new staff or students.
  • Cross-training in other imaging modalities.
