About the position
The Sorter position at Republic Services is crucial for the efficient processing of incoming recyclable materials. This role involves sorting and segregating various recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper from incoming waste streams. The Sorter is responsible for ensuring that these materials are deposited safely and efficiently into the appropriate chutes, thereby maintaining the integrity of the recycling process. The position requires adherence to all company safety policies and procedures, including the ability to stop the conveyor belt in emergency situations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. In addition to sorting materials, the Sorter will assist fellow team members with heavy or bulky items as needed, demonstrating a collaborative spirit within the team. Inspecting incoming loads for unacceptable waste is also a key responsibility, as the Sorter must remove any items that do not meet recycling standards. Effective communication with equipment operators regarding special waste loads is essential to ensure that all materials are handled appropriately. Responsibilities
- Sort and segregate recoverable materials (e.g., aluminum, plastic, glass, paper, etc.) from incoming waste.
- Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into appropriate chute.
- Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items.
- Follow all Company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations.
- Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste; remove unacceptable items as required.
- Communicate with equipment operators regarding incoming loads of special waste or other loads that require special attention.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a Recycling Facility sorting recyclable materials.
